Melbourne Museum

Scienceworks
Offering hands on exhibits and demonstrations, Scienceworks attempts to
make it fun to explore science. Scienceworks includes a digital planetarium.
As well, enjoy a tour of the museum's collection or the Spotswood Pumping
Station. Scienceworks is a campus of Museum Victoria.

Victoria Police Museum
The museum is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm. Exhibits and displays
include police communication systems, policing in the city, weapons, uniforms,
insignia, badges and a police motorcycle. Souvenirs and books are available
at the museum shop. Entry is free.

Cultural Venues
Australian Centre for Contemporary Art
Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) exhibits and encourages
the enjoyment of contemporary visual art. The ACCA moved to a new, purpose-built
arts building in 2002.

The Comedy Theatre
The Comedy Theatre, built on a historic theatre site, is located in the
heart of Melbourne. Named to the Historic Building Register, the Comedy
Theatre offers a variety of programs during the theatre season.

The Forum Theatre
The Forum Theatre offers the setting of an outdoor amphitheatre. The Theatre,
divided into the 520-seat Upstairs Theatrette and the Downstairs Auditorium
that can hold 1000 people, was added to the Historic Buildings Register
in 1978.

The Princess Theatre
The Princess Theatre has been restored to its appearance after the theatre's
first restoration in 1922. Originally an amphitheatre, the Princess Theatre
has shown productions such as "Les Miserables" and "The
Phantom of the Opera" in recent years.

The Regent Theatre
The Regent Theatre, originally a picture palace, was refurbished from
1994 to 1996 to mimic the orginal brilliance of the 1929 building. Today,
the Regent Theatre contains the Regent Theatre Auditorium, the Regal Promenade
(otherwise known as the Dress Circle Foyer), a VIP Room, and a Corporate
Dining Room.

Historic Sites & Interpretive Centres
Old Melbourne Gaol
Once home to some of Australia's most notorious criminals, the Old Melbourne
Gaol is now open for viewing by the public. The last home of the infamous
Ned Kelly, the Old Melbourne Gaol exhibits Kelly's armour and death mask,
among others. A candlelit tour and a warder introduce visitors to the
gaol's history during occasional evening performances.
